LOL Naaaw...didn't go to the opera, but I DID go to the Opera House! LOL
Li'l town of Ellisville, IL has a yearly Christmas ham sale, and this year they added a Christmas Market with several of us peddlin' out wares, along with some good ol' homestyle cookin' servin' ham n' beans n' cornbread, ham sandwiches, assorted pies, and apple dumplins' that were DELICIOUS!! WOW!
Since it's so close, I went over late Friday afternoon to set up. Was really neat to be in that old, old building by myself, and I sensed as soon as the door shut that I really wasn't alone. I tried to find access to the upstairs area, but didn't realize you have to go outside to get there, so that limited my explorations....darn it!! Do I think it's haunted? Well, I'll just say I had a sense of something while there that night & again the next day when I explored the upstairs.
It's 122 years old...no modern plumbing of any kind, all it has is a furnace & electric in it. Not even a sink in the kitchen area they've made. Most people would be insulted to spend a day in a rickety old building like that where ya' had to go outside n' use the outhouse...I absorbed it ALL & savored it as an adventure and I LOVE old buildings! LOL
LOTS of elderly folk were there for the event. Several in their 80s & 90s...I really enjoyed visiting with them & hearing their stories of the town, etc. One lady was 95 n' still gettin' out n' about to events like this in her li'l village. Another gal's birthday was Saturday, she just turned 75 n' didn't look a day over 60! I gave her some of my samples as a birthday gift....yeah, I'm "supposed" to be frugal with 'em as I have to purchase them myself, but even if she never orders from me, she'll remember me givin' her those samples, I'll bet! LOL
The ham sale they have at Christmas is kinda' neat.....EVERYTHING is local, the hams are hickory sassafras. Local pork, local locker does the hams, and they're done with the area's very own sassafras! How neat! BIG ol' hams too, I'll bet they were 20-25 pounders! I didn't get one cuz' they were just too big for us, but I sure enjoyed the same ham in the ham n' bean lunch I had! VERY good!
Anyway, later he meandered into the room where us vendors were set up......carrying a dummy...no, NOT his neighbor, a dummy, and propped it up n' started singing via the dummy...he didn't do too well at not moving his lips, but what a HOOT!!! I went n' grabbed my camera and got these 2 shots of the ol' boy. Notice his CANE...that baby was hand-carved, bird tail at the heel of his hand, and a big bird beak n' eyes on top of the bird's head like the coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs bird!
These next two shots are for my OFOPOS bud,
Preacher Son. ...if you've ever seen his posts on the board, you'll know why I had to take these 2 shots! ;) LOL
Time to go upstairs n' go explorin!
The two shots of the piano caught my fancy & teased my imagination....first shot, NO flash and you can see the "spots"...2nd shot WITH flash, and no spots. These were among the very first pics I took upstairs and NOTHING like that happened on ANY of the other shots....could they be orbs? Was what I felt and sensed the night before maybe playin' that piano for the entertainment of the company downstairs? Would we have heard the music if we'd tuned ourselves in to that fine old building? aaaah....to ponder such things and wonder, ay?
I hope I caught the ambiance of the place in my pics...the sights, sounds n' smells all combined to make it intriguing!
OH, and when I got ready to leave, the gals in charge hooked me up with a tub of ham n' beans and half a dozen cupcakes that didn't get sold! PERKS! LOL
Another non-biker event, but it was fun & I made a few bucks, got some future possibilities of gigs too.
I LOVE what I do...the people I meet just fascinate and amaze me! Working in places like this are a treat to me!
Whether it's at an actual "biker" event, or just a small community gathering like this....it's ALL good! :)
NEXT STOP for Patchez Plus, unless somethin' else pops up will be the
2-day ABATE Little Rock Swap Meet in Feb., 2013. One of my favorites, and I'm READY to get back to a biker gig! ;) LOL
